Introducing Brainstem
What is Brainstem
Brainstem is the model family we are building in-house at Supernerve. It is not a wrapper around someone else's API. It is our own fine-tuned model, trained specifically for the job of understanding, structuring, and reasoning over company knowledge.
Why we are building our own
Generic models are good at general tasks. But an AI Business Operating System needs a model that understands business context deeply - documents, conversations, tickets, code, decisions, and the relationships between them.
Off-the-shelf models treat every query the same. Brainstem is trained to understand that a Jira ticket, a Slack thread, and a Confluence page about the same project are connected. It reasons over your company's actual structure, not just raw text.
The Brainstem family
We are building Brainstem as a series:
Brainstem - The foundation. Knowledge layer reasoning and company data understanding.
Brainstem-1 - Text-focused. Optimized for retrieval and structured queries.
Brainstem-2 - Text and audio. Multi-step planning with voice understanding.
Brainstem-3 - Text, audio, and image. Full multimodal with agentic execution.
Each generation builds on the last. We ship what works, learn from real usage, and iterate.
How it fits into Supernerve
Brainstem powers the knowledge layer that Cortex talks to. When you ask Cortex a question about your company, Brainstem is the model doing the reasoning underneath - finding the right context, connecting the dots, and generating the answer.
It also powers agent workflows. When an agent needs to decide what to do next, Brainstem provides the planning and decision-making intelligence.
What is next
Brainstem-1 is in active development. We will share benchmarks, architecture details, and early access as we get closer to release.
This is the beginning of Supernerve's own intelligence layer - purpose-built for the job no one else is solving.
